Jean Aquistapace (Bass) (Nice 1888 - Nice 1952)



He made his debut in 1911 and first sang at the French province, among other things in 1913 at the Opera House in Lyon as Boris Godunov. In the 1913-1914 season he joined to the Paris Opéra-Comique. In 1914 he appeared at the Covent Garden in London with success in Mozart's ''Le nozze di Figaro'' and ''La Bohème'' of Puccini. Here he also sang in 1913 the role of  father in Charpentier's ''Louise'' and appeared as Leporello in  ''Don Giovanni'' under Bruno Walter (1926). At the Grand Opéra in Paris he performed in 1922 in the famous première of the Mozart's opera '' Die Zauberflöte''. His repertoire included roles like Mefistofele in ''Faust'' of Gounod,  Sparafucile in ''Rigoletto'' and Diable in ''Grisélidis''. He appeared also in several films. Later he worked as manager of the Nice Opera.
